Classic Barn Doors

A modern take on the traditional barn door

CLASSIC BARN DOOR STYLES
Our Classic Range is a modern take on the traditional barn door. Available in six timeless styles, they feature simplified detailing with no grooving on the face panels and have the same pattern on both the front and back. They look modern, clean, and yet maintain the essence of the traditional barn door aesthetic.

KEY POINTS

• Simplified aesthetic with no grooving to the face of the door.
• Both faces are the same, so there is no compensation for the edges of the door that are obscured by the door frame on the back side of a surface slider.
• The Classic Range is not compatible with steel reinforcement.

Premium Barn Doors

Our Premium Range emphasises the traditional joinery aesthetic

Our Premium Range emphasises the traditional joinery aesthetic. Unlike our Classic barn doors, the Premium Range has additional grooving on the faces of the door, which looks and feels like traditional wood joinery.
They also feature slightly different designs on the front and back, ensuring consistency regardless of which side of the door you are looking at. This is something that would be very difficult to achieve with traditional wood joinery and is a real benefit when using modern materials and techniques.

Premium Barn Doors + Steel Reinforcement

Premium + Steel Reinforced Range of barn doors represent the pinnacle of old meets new. The same traditional styling combined with modern engineering and production processes creates a resilient and lifeready door. Engineered for locations that experience different environmental conditions on either side of the door, it remains straight and true. This is the ultimate modern barn door.

KEY POINTS

• Additional grooving details to emphasise the wood joinery look and feel.
One face has an additional 50mm to the left and right borders. This compensates for the edges of the door that are obscured by the door frame on the back side of a surface slider.
• The Premium Range gives the option of steel reinforcement.

How to Work Out the Right Size Sliding Barn Door for Your Doorway

A sliding barn door can be a practical and stylish feature in your home, but choosing the right size is essential for it to look right and function properly.

When measuring for a barn door, the most important thing is the opening size. In most cases, the door should be large enough to fully cover the doorway when closed.

What to measure

Start by measuring the height and width of the opening.

From there, you need to allow enough overlap so the barn door properly covers the opening and helps reduce visible gaps.

  • If your doorway has architraves, the door should cover the architrave at the top and both sides when closed.

  • If your doorway is square stopped with no architraves, allow at least 40mm overlap on each side and across the top.

You should also allow for the door to sit approximately 10mm above the finished floor for smooth operation.

Track length

As a general guide, the track length is usually a little over twice the door width. This allows the door to slide fully open beside the doorway.

Example sizes

For an opening of 2000mm high x 800mm wide with 90mm architraves, the barn door should be no smaller than:

2080mm x 980mm

For the same opening with no architraves and a square stopped finish, the door should be no smaller than:

2030mm x 880mm

Before you order

It’s also worth checking that you have enough wall space beside the opening for the door to slide open, and enough room above the opening to install the track and hangers.

If you’re unsure about the best door size or track option for your space, get in touch with The Door Shed and we’ll help you work it out.
